About last night: Inside the Syndrome launch party
Famous faces including Tom York, Mathias Le Fevre and Robert Wilde turned out for the premiere of Jack Brett Anderson’s directorial debut
London’s theatre and society set turned out in force at the W Hotel last night (11 February) to celebrate the launch of Syndrome — Jack Brett Anderson’s directorial theatre debut — co-hosted by Gentleman’s Journal. In attendance were some of the play’s principal actors, including Akshay Kumar, Robert Wilde and Romario Simpson, while friends of Gentleman’s Journal Tom York, Mathias Le Fevre, Dionne Bromfield and Jemima Cadbury also joined the party.
Written by Tina Jay, Syndrome tells the story of four young British soldiers on combat duty during Operation Desert Storm in Saudi Arabia in 1991. Awaiting orders and fearing the release of biological weapons, the men spend the long hot days undergoing a barrage of protective vaccines and bantering to break the tension — until a shocking discovery hurtles the narrative five years into the future when the men are reunited and each is struggling to cope with the symptoms of Gulf War Syndrome.
Opening on 18 February at the Tristan Bates Theatre in Covent Garden, last night’s event saw guests sip on Casamigos tequila cocktails including the fresh lime and prosecco-based ‘Jalisco 74’ and bitter orange ‘Casa Old Fashioned’. Glasses were raised to the powerful play in celebration — a performance that looks set to become one of 2020’s cultural highlights. Scroll down to step inside…
