The Diary: Church’s x Gentleman’s Journal event to celebrate the new City Light Collection
Accompanied by some up-bucking tunes from the Django Collective, guests marvelled over the shoemaker's latest range
A September scent is in the air — that ‘back to school’ aroma of freshly sharpened pencils and dreams of the first XV and the merry crunching of golden leaves underfoot. If you’re in the market for a good set of leaf-crunchers, by the way, then surely a pair of Church’s is the connoisseur’s choice — that magnificent marque that has long helped us put our best foot forward, whatever the season/foliage. With that in mind, Gentleman’s Journal was thrilled to invite 200-or-so of its closest friends to the Church’s flagship, on London’s Regent Street, last night — a marbled oasis of gentility and fragrant leather and subsidised champagne that made one and all feel slightly better about the end of summer – to celebrate the brand’s new City Light Collection.
Accompanied by a volley of nifty canapés and some up-bucking tunes from the Django Collective, guests marvelled and cooed over the City Light Collection — that clever melding of elegant, classic, English lines with eerily comfortable Goodyear-welted ‘eva’ lightweight soles.
Afterwards, an intimate dinner — which included Cyrill Ibrahim, Mathias le Fèvre, Charlie Casely-Hayford, Sam Way, Leo Suter, Eric Underwood, Orfeo Tagiuri, Flavio Cerbone, Jack Fox, and Church’s CEO Denni Manzato — took place at George, on Mount Street, where rotisserie chicken and Cornish red mullet were showcased, before a fearsome backgammon tournament saw them through to the early hours. Perhaps heading back to work isn’t so awful after all.
