Cocktail of the Week: The Plymouth Gin Pennant
Put some wind in your sails with this nautical tipple
Plymouth Gin and boating have always been strongly linked. From the Royal Naval tradition that all newly commissioned vessels receive a ‘Plymouth Gin Commissioning kit’ to the brand’s recent partnership with Princess Yachts, the spirit is almost synonymous with seafaring.
Which is why, at the Cannes Yachting Festival earlier this week, Plymouth gin cocktails were flowing – chief amongst them the Plymouth Gin Pennant.
To recreate this nautical tipple, take a long glass or julep cup and pour in 3 1/2 parts Plymouth Gin Original, 1 1/2 parts Plymouth Sloe Gin, 1 1/2 parts Antica Formula Sweet Vermouth and half a part Apricot liqueur.
Then add 1 part lemon juice, 1 part orange juice and half a part sugar syrup. Top up with 8 parts soda water, and carefully fill the glass with ice.
Garnish with a large mint sprig, thin lemon wedge and, if you really want to push the boat out, an orange twist. Refreshing but rich, get the mix just right and the rest of your night will be plain sailing…
