Cocktail of the Week: The Ultis Boulevardier
In English, it means a wealthy socialite. Get regal with Chivas' latest.
The word ‘boulevardier’ has two meanings. First and foremostly, it is a wealthy socialite who frequents the most fashionable boutiques, bars and locales of Paris. But, just as importantly, it is a rich vermillion cocktail, bitter and infused with orange.
Recently, Chivas Regal launched their first blended malt Scotch whisky. Ultis contains five precious signature single malts, each one hand selected from five Speyside distilleries. For a new event at The Blend, Shoreditch, Chivas master mixologists launched a series of 5 classic cocktails, reimagined to accommodate Ultis.
But whilst the Taylor emphasises the light, spicy character of Ultis, and the Speyside teases out the sweet and fruity notes, the Boulevardier is the one cocktail you’ll wish you could recreate at home. So let’s tell you how.
The Boulevardier brings out the Tormore Malt used in Ultis, accentuating the tasting notes of citrus and orange. Begin by placing a 2 inch diameter ice cube in a rocks glass.
Next, add 25ml of Ultis, followed by 20ml of Italian Bitters and 20ml of Sweet Italian Vermouth in a separate vessel, stir for 20 seconds, and strain into the glass over the ice. Garnish with a generously-sized orange twist and sip to your heart’s content.
