Daniel Craig will return once again to his most iconic role, of James Bond, the actor has revealed. Speaking on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, Craig finally cleared up the rumours that have been circulating for the past two years, but also confirmed that this would be his final outing as the superspy.
The actor was not asked outright by Colbert, who skirted around the subject for a little while trying to tease out details. But Craig gave him a straight – and very simple – answer, by just saying ‘Yes’. He gave no further details.

‘I have been quite cagey about it,’ said Craig. ‘I have been doing interviews all day and people have been asking me and I think I’ve been rather coy. But kind of felt like if I was going to speak the truth I should speak truth to you.
‘I think this is it,’ he added, ‘I just want to go out on a high note and I can’t wait.’
The as-yet untitled 25th Bond film has a release date of November 8, 2019 – almost exactly four years since Craig’s last mission in Spectre. Reportedly, the three frontrunners to direct the next film are Yann Demange (Top Boy), Denis Villeneuve (Sicario and Blade Runner 2049) and David Mackenzie (Hell or High Water). Christopher Nolan had allegedly been in talks with the production team, but these – unfortunately – appeared to have amounted to nothing.
A red-top rumour reports that the next instalment will be titled Shatterhand, and will borrow heavily from the 2001 James Bond canon novel Never Dream of Dying, by Raymond Benson. The story follows a French organisation called The Union, led by a blind super villain – something as of yet unseen in the cinematic Bond franchise. But, whoever Bond’s taking on this time round, we’re now safe in the knowledge that he’ll be doing it in Craig’s shoes.
