Johannes Huebl shares his spring style and grooming must-haves
Inside the wardrobe of one of world’s most famous globe-trotting models…
A changing of the seasons means it’s time for a wardrobe refresh and there’s none we enjoy so much as the transition from winter to spring. Loosened from the shackles of thick coats and jumpers, it’s time to once again embrace those lightweight jackets, fine sweaters and, dare we say it, shorts in preparation for warmer weather. But if last year’s wardrobe is looking a little lacklustre – no you really can’t eek another spring out of those already sagging chinos – it’s time to upgrade your seasonal essentials.
And who better to recommend your new season style investments than international jet-setter Johannes Huebl? The German model splits his time between Europe and America (as well as some seriously beautiful travel destination if his Instagram is anything to go by) so knows a thing or two about being prepared for all weathers. His work with fashion brands including Hugo Boss, Ralph Lauren and Tommy Hilfiger means he also knows how to put a great look together. Here are the spring style and grooming essentials he wouldn’t be without…
The shirt: Frescobol Carioca
He says: I recently partnered with Frescobol Carioca to create a line of tailored separates and am looking forward to wearing this Tencel shirt made using a sustainable material woven from eucalyptus. It is very soft and breezy, hugs the neck and can be combined easily for day and night.
We say: A classic navy shirt is a spring must-have – especially in a breathable material like Tencel as it will stand up to whatever the weather can throw at you. Pair with chinos now and shorts once the warm weather really arrives.

The over shirt: Brioni
He says: I love this military shirt by Brioni. It looks elegant with jeans or tailored trousers.
We say: Investing in a good quality neutral-hued shirt is always a great idea because it will quickly become one of the most versatile pieces in your wardrobe. Like Huebl, choose something with subtle detailing and in a medium weight so you can wear it as an over shirt or normal button-down – Brioni’s current collection includes a fetching brick-coloured option.

The suit: Thom Sweeney
He says: This bespoke suit from Thom Sweeney is most definitely my favourite suit for the summer. It’s made from lightweight linen with a double-breasted, peak lapel jacket and pleated trousers.
We say: A white suit may seem daunting – and we certainly don’t recommend it if you take the tube to work – but few things have a casual summer sartorial ease like a linen suit. Buy the best quality you can afford and always get it tailored if you’re buying off the rack. If white seems impractical, why not experiment with a light blue or pastel shade instead?

The jacket: Marc Anthony
He says: Another favourite item is this blue, unlined safari jacket which was made bespoke by Marc Anthony in Hamburg. It’s perfect for day or night and adds some style to a casual tailored look.
We say: Huebl’s safari jacket is the perfect example of how to add a little flair to a look without having to step outside your comfort zone in terms of colour or silhouette. Its lightweight nature means it’s perfect for layering while the gold buttons and Nehru collar take it up a level in the style stakes. If you can’t make it to Huebl’s tailor of choice, Hockerty does an excellent alternative.

The shoe: Fratelli Rosetti
He says: Fratelli Rosetti’s desert shoe is one of my all time favourites. When they asked me create a collection with them I knew I had to reintroduce it for summer.
We say: Pairing as perfectly with jeans and chinos as they do with a suit, a sturdy pair of desert boots will never see you wrong. Huebl’s grey pair are a great alternative to the more standard beige or navy.

The sneaker: Santoni
He says: I am so attached to these clean and super comfortable Italian-made sneakers by Santoni. They go with everything.
We say: We can’t argue with Huebl there, white trainers really do go with everything and his choice neatly side steps the temptation of many designers to add logos and unnecessary details. Minimalist and elegant, we’re fans.

The luggage: Serapian
He says: Beautifully hand-crafted in Milan, this elegant and lightweight leather travel bag from Serapian is my permanent travel companion.
We say: We know you’re not going anywhere just yet but quality luggage is a long-term investment so it doesn’t hurt to invest for the future. Take a leaf out of Huebl’s book and choose a well constructed leather weekend bag with just a touch of modern detailing.

The grooming products: Saunders & Long
He says: Saunders & Long is my to go-to grooming line. I love everything about its products: the texture, the scent, the range, the design and the results!
We say: Finding a grooming brand that works for your skin can be a trial and error process but, since Huebl has found his, why not give it a try? We recommend approaching any new skincare line by testing its everyday moisturiser on for size.

The T-shirt: Closed Denim
He says: I love soft materials, even more so when it’s really cold or warm outside. Closed Denim tees are my go-to T-shirts and they’re easy to layer under a blazer as well.
We say: Few and far between are the men who would take a collared shirt over a soft T-shirt and, with dress codes relaxing in the warmer months, slipping on a white T-shirt under your tailored jacket is the way to nail Casual Friday.
