This autumn, a world-famous distillery and an iconic hotel will transport the beauties of Speyside to London
A new installation at Rosewood London celebrates the release of the latest expression from one of Scotland’s premier whisky makers
Titled ‘Amber Meadow’, The Macallan’s upcoming installation at Rosewood London takes its cues from nature, bringing the spirit and feel of a Scottish meadow to the capital in order to showcase and celebrate the distillery’s latest release: The Macallan Harmony Collection Amber Meadow.
Running from 11–29 October, 'Amber Meadow' will spread itself across the iconic hotel’s courtyard and terrace and remodel the spaces into a reproduction of a wild Scottish landscape, one that features a stone archway, dry-stone walls, a babbling brook and large stretches of foliage, including herbs, native trees, flowers and plants. Overseeing it all, and injecting a welcoming, warm glow onto the scene, will be an orb styled replica of the sun. Meanwhile throws crafted from responsibly sourced alpaca wool and lambswool will dial up the cosy, comforting feel.
Underpinning it all is The Macallan’s newest offering – a sweet, rich tipple thick with notes of oak, classic scone, melon, lemon and green tea – which, in this case, is done in tandem with Stella and Mary McCartney and is influenced by the sisters’ love for – and memories of – the Scottish countryside. Notably, the latter's photography of The Macallan Estate will decorate the packaging.
Available to try at the terrace, the special-edition expression will also be complemented by cocktails that revolve around The Macallan Double Cask 12 Years Old and 15 Years Old, with the menu listing libations such as the Foraging Old Fashioned, made with sous bois verjus, evaporated nougat, palo cortado and edible moss.
Paying further homage to Scotland, and to The Macallan’s Speyside roots specifically, the terrace’s largely vegetarian à la carte menu, which comes courtesy of head chef Liam Fauchard Newman, will serve up dishes such as a seaweed cracker, and a miso-glazed aubergine that’s been grilled and paired with mushroom purée, kale, garlic and cistus. To finish things off, platings will be complemented by herbs and plants found on The Macallan’s estate and surrounding grounds.
Open from 4pm, Sunday to Thursday, and from 12.30pm, Friday and Saturday, the terrace will also play host to special ticketed events that will comprise a guided tour of the space (complete with sketch artist and guitarist), before cocktails and a four-course dinner.
Moreover, as a project that underlines the beauties of the Scottish topography, practices with an eco-focus have been key to the creative process. Notably, the stone from which the installation is made (and the same that is used to build The Macallan Estate) comes from Defind Stone, from Dundee, a natural-stone supplier celebrated for its sustainable methods, and will be transported back to the quarry – where it will be used for a garden area – following the end of the showcase.
This singular partnership will also highlight a collection of 11 bespoke lifestyle pieces – titled ‘TOGETHER: A Collection for The Macallan by Stella and Mary McCartney’ – including a pair of brass ice stamps made with hand-painted ceramic handles; and handmade glassware in vivid tones that draw upon natural minerals.
- The Macallan Harmony Collection Amber Meadow will be available from 11 October, 2023 at an RRSP of £160
- TOGETHER is exclusively sold as a complete set and will be available in limited numbers from 11 October, 2023
