We don’t tend to associate Barcelona, with its sweeping, heat-hazed beaches and secret, colourful cafes, with luxury. Sure, it’s got exclusive areas and five-star hotels, but it’s more mojitos and flip-flops than martinis and loafers.
But when we ventured uptown, to the select neighbourhood of Sant Gervasi-Galvany, we were pleasantly surprised. The area itself, a breath of fresh air amidst the metropolis and a hub of lively local brasseries and stylish boutiques, was refreshing enough — but it was a new apartment complex that really turned our heads.
Francesc Macià 10 is a standout development in a neighbourhood already revered for its chic taste. Built from a former office block that was Bauhaus-style designed in the 1960s, it has been revitalised by net-modernist Marcio Kogan and developers Squircle Capital.
Effortlessly tranquil, the residences are surrounded by curved floor-to-ceiling windows with 180-degree panoramic views over Tibidabo Mountain.

There are eight apartments in all — which seems to be the magic number for exclusive luxury at the moment — with seven of those spacious 600-square-metre and one 900-square-metre.
But the best is yet to come. Francesc Macià works with world-class interior designers and openly invites residents to challenge, consider, compare and change elements of their new homes. Now that’s the fiery Spanish creativity we think of when think of blazing Barcelona.
