Wine For The Weekend – Chapel Down Vintage Reserve Brut
Many used to turn their noses up at the thought of English wine, however, not any more. Over the last few years English wine has begun to develop a quality reputation. It is now very much an industry on the up, in fact the government have even labeled it as a sector of growth for the UK economy.
One of the vineyards leading the way is Chapel Down in Kent, which produces Red, White, Rose and Sparkling wines. All their grapes are picked from the South East where the climate and geology make for a perfect terroir, some say that it is on par with the Champagne region.
For those of you who are new to English wine, the Chapel Down Vintage Reserve is a great place to start. Chief Winemaker Andrew Parley says “this is a finely structured sparkling wine with lemongrass and wild strawberries on the nose. It’s England in a glass. An ideal match for smoked salmon.”
Chapel Down is now available at a wide range of supermarkets with a RRP of £18.99. chapeldown.com
